Knowledge Metric

In addition to providing users with a Foresight rating, Hypothesis will make available all trackable metrics that correspond with daily use of the app. Together, these metrics make up what Hypothesis calls Knowledge Metric. Knowledge Metric forms the core of a user’s profile page, breaking down accuracy, topic engagement and activity compared to the Hypothesis community. It is crucial that Hypothesis remains transparent about the data that it collects, and packaging it in a way that can be constructive to users adheres to this principle. A comprehensive Knowledge Metric helps users more meaningfully understand Foresight and Usefulness, and creates a use case for the app as a sort of “brain trainer,” where users strive not only to grow their Foresight and Usefulness, but also to improve and their accuracy in competition with friends.

Hypothesis takes the position that granularity is good. Nine-in-ten adults feel various dimensions of control over personal information collection are “very important” to them, and they should rightfully be wary of applications that maneuver their data in ways that, while sometimes result in addicting user experiences, lack transparency.

As such, the Knowledge Metric complements Foresight and Usefulness as a contextualizing force. A product of the prediction experience and layered with social features, it energizes the app and expands its potential audience to those looking for an opportunity to more deeply explore these newly-trackable data points.
